Role and Responsibilities The Business Operations Solution Architect role is responsible for the design and development of operations transformation solutions that IBM offers to its clients in areas such as Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Customer Operations, and others. This role goes beyond the traditional outsourcing approach, leading the construction of solutions under a Consult‑Transform‑Operate model focused on transforming the client’s operations through the integration of processes, technology, data, and advanced automation and artificial intelligence capabilities. The Solution Architect is responsible for designing innovative, differentiated solutions that transform the client’s operations, enabling measurable business outcomes such as efficiency, productivity, improved experience, and scalability. Specific Areas of Focus Solution Architecture Design and Development
- Develop a deep understanding of client requirements by working directly with their teams to analyze current‑state (AS‑IS) processes.
- Design future‑state (TO‑BE) end‑to‑end operating models that integrate processes, technology, data, and experience.
- Define Target Operating Models (TOM) that include centralization, operational hubs, and hybrid models (onshore, nearshore, and digital workforce).
- Identify opportunities for process elimination, simplification, and reengineering, beyond automation alone.
- Design solutions under an AI‑first approach, where automation, artificial intelligence, and analytics are at the core of operations.
- Incorporate intelligent automation capabilities, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence (including GenAI, copilots, and agents).
- Ensure the solution addresses security, compliance, and operational sustainability considerations. Cost Case Development and Financial Modeling
- Build robust financial models that include baseline versus transformed models, operational efficiencies, FTE reductions, and savings curves.
- Define competitive pricing structures that integrate both operations and technology.
- Design outcome‑oriented service models, including performance‑oriented or value‑based pricing schemes.
- Lead the end‑to‑end development of the business case, coordinating inputs from multiple internal IBM teams. Value Proposition Development and Sales
- Build differentiated value propositions aligned with Business Operations offerings.
- Identify, structure, and quantify client pain points, transforming them into high‑impact solutions with clear, measurable benefits.
- Translate client challenges into solutions focused on efficiency, productivity, customer experience (NPS), and scalability.
- Present and defend the solution to executive stakeholders (C‑level), using strategic storytelling with a results‑driven focus. Collaboration and Capability Orchestration
- Act as a key member of the Go‑to‑Market team, working closely with clients, partners, and internal teams.
- Orchestrate IBM’s multidisciplinary capabilities (Business Operations, Technology, Data & AI, CX).
- Serve as an integrator of capabilities, ensuring coherence between strategy, technology, and operations.
- Establish and manage strong relationships with internal IBM teams (finance, pricing, technology, delivery, among others) to build robust business cases.
- Work closely with account strategists to ensure alignment with client priorities and to amplify opportunity generation.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, facilitating alignment between business, technology, and operations. Transition Design and Sustainable Operating Model
- Define transition, stabilization, and continuous improvement strategies.
- Design governance models, SLAs/KPIs, and performance monitoring frameworks.
- Ensure resilient, scalable operations oriented toward business outcomes. Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience in operations and/or business transformation, with a strong focus on identifying and structuring client pain points and converting them into end‑to‑end solutions that generate measurable business outcomes (efficiency, productivity, experience, and scalability).
- Experience in designing operating models (TOM) and end‑to‑end process transformation.
- Experience in developing business cases, financial models, and solution pricing.
- Strong knowledge of business processes (Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Customer Operations, or others).
- Experience in deep process understanding (AS‑IS), maturity assessment, and TO‑BE design based on best practices and innovation.
- Understanding of how technology enables the transformation of business processes, including automation, artificial intelligence, and analytics.
- General knowledge of tools and capabilities such as process automation, intelligent workflows, and data‑driven solutions, without requiring deep technical development expertise.
- Understanding of how to integrate these capabilities into end‑to‑end processes to achieve efficiency, scalability, and improved experience.
- Familiarity with enterprise ecosystems (ERP, CRM, or other core systems) from a functional and operational perspective.
- General understanding of technology environments and cloud models as enablers of operational transformation.
- Strategic, results‑oriented thinking (focused on outcomes, not activities).
- Transformation mindset (not outsourcing).
- Executive storytelling capability for C‑level audiences.
- Ability to work with client teams to understand current processes and guide them toward TO‑BE models.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to structure complex problems.
- Ability to translate business needs into operational and technological solutions.
